a Moment for Wisdom…

The fundamental delusion of humanity is to suppose that I am here and you are out there.”

Yasutani Roshi

Personal Wisdom:

How and where do you succumb to the delusion of separation?

For you, who is your Other?

What are the circumstances when/where you separate from the Other?

Societal Wisdom:

What is the purpose of a “nation”?

If we cure the “fundamental delusion”, will nations exist? What will replace them?

If we cure the “fundamental delusion”, what purpose will the military serve?

a Moment with Sharif…

This fundamental delusion – that we are separate – is the essential, root cause of all of our illness, both societal and personal.

Since I devoted a good portion of “Creating a World That Works for All” to this concept, I won’t say much more here. However, it is interesting that we use the apparent images of our eyes to reinforce the delusion of separation.

As the argument goes: if we are all connected to each other, why can’t I SEE the connections?  After all, “I” am sitting in my tiny studio/office, writing this on Sunday night, “you” are reading it miles away, on Monday morning. Isn’t that “proof” of our separation?

To which I say: Jump five feet into the air… and stay there for a few minutes. You cannot. Invisible bonds connect you to the Earth.  Those bonds are there, WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IN THEM OR NOT. Your separation from the Earth is a delusion. Similarly
powerful yet invisible bonds connect each human, each living Being, into a network of mutuality. Our eyes are great, but are not the final arbiters of Reality. Sometimes we have to close them in order to SEE.

To envision and implement a transformation of human societies, one radical enough to match the times, inclusive enough to heal humanity and all other beings, and visionary enough to propel us to the next step of human evolution.
