a Moment for Wisdom…

.

.

DAILY
WISDOM:

The ‘weapon’ you are willing to use against your enemy is the same weapon necessity will force you to use against your friend, and, ultimately,
yourself.

Personal Wisdom:

How do you deal with people you find yourself in conflict with? Yes, we would LIKE to always connect with the Other, but what do we actually do?

Do your “weapons” include anger? Belittling? Shunning? Abusive language?

Do you find yourself using these against those who are family and friends?

Do you use these “weapons” against
yourself?

Societal Wisdom:

In Afghanistan, US troops face the same “Stinger” missiles that we gave the Afghans when they were our “friends”, fighting our “enemy” the Russians (who are now our friends…)

Think about the “weapons” of our society: military, police, prisons… how do those tools of coercion turn against our “friends”? Against ourselves?

What would our society look like if our principal “weapon” was enduring love?

a Moment with Sharif…

A reporter once asked Andrew Young how he could be nonviolent in the face of the violent hatred of groups like the Ku Klux Klan. Young was thoughtful for a few moments, then said, “Being nonviolent with the KKK is relatively easy; I’m not sure I can be nonviolent with my
children.”

In our lives, we have devised strategies to get pleasure and avoid suffering. We have ways that we avoid threat – real or imagined. We devised many of these strategies when we were not as conscious as we are now. In times of threat, we fall back onto old behaviors – to our own detriment and the detriment of others.

These Praxis exercises are designed to help us develop new muscles, to respond to situations out of love, from your inner Power, not your inner fear.
